That looks like an over-engineered nose!!
Interesting cockpit design too

There's also the new Haas from earlier in the week: https://www.haasf1team.com/VF18

It's got some pretty heavily engineered barge boards on it!

The cockpit is an homage to the Morris Traveller, apparently.

Was thinking exactly the same thing, really seems to obscure the drivers view.

It might just be because it's a view from a camera that it looks worse, but it seems to block quite a bit from the front. The first corner might be a bit more crashy.

I thought they might lower the side pillars next to the drivers heads now, since the halo is effectively doing the same job, give them a bit more lateral vision.

Almost makes you want to see a suspension strut come through the side of the halo and go through someones head, or a wheel come straight down through the top and break their neck, just to prove them wrong.

The only accidents involving head injuries I can think of in F1 wouldn't have been avoided with a halo. Senna would still be dead, and Massa would still have taken the spring to the head. The only recent fatalities have been in Indycar and Henry Surtees in F2.

There's a severe lack of sponsors on there, though to be fair they probably didn't style it out as it's a kind of advert for potential sponsors. More classy than "YOUR LOGO HERE".

I've been thinking the same. Even the Surtees accident would've had the same outcome.

The halo is going to be distracting as fuck in heavy rain or very wet conditions, not taking into account the fact that I'm a mere mortal and these blokes aren't.

Any idea why they're starting the races at 10 minutes past the hour?
Also... with clocks going forwards, does that mean it's 5:10am or 6:10am? I don't know if sky tv guide has taken that into account.

[Edit]
Quote:
F1's new owners, Liberty Media, believe moving the start-time of races to 10 minutes past the hour will improve experience of TV viewers.

According to the Formula 1 authorities: 'Some broadcasters usually go on air precisely on the hour, hence missing the tension and emotion that characterize the minutes before the start of each Grand Prix. Thanks to this change, television viewers will be brought closer to the teams and the drivers and fully enjoy the spectacle offered just before the red lights go out.'

Yeps, sounds about right... adverts before show starts on the hour... then a quick ad break prior to the formation lap. Job done.

Cautiously optimistic. Mercedes, Ferrari and Red Bull all seem reasonably close. Obviously qually will be the real first look but so far....

If we can have a competitive season and not as many ridiculous penalties I'll be happy.
