Exchange connector log oddness

Anyone ever come across a scenario where a user "appears" to have sent an email but the same message doesn't show up under the exchange transport logs.

Got a weird situation in work and trying to make sense of it.

Yep, when the auth has gone strange / user's password has expired.
Kill the app on the offending client machine and reenter the users's password. If it's a similar issue to that I've seen the mail will come through then.

but.... the logs are meant to record traffic that passes through the transport server - so if the mail was sent, it went through that - which means it must have been logged.

It follows that if there's no entry in the log - the message simply wasn't sent.

Wasn't it?

The bizzare thing we have is a copy of a message (hardcopy) that is being claimed was sent by us, and yet we can't find any record of it... nor the external email that is also claimed we received that prompted this fantom email in the first place (again - hard copy).

There's a feeling in the camp that someone has been using a little "artistic license" in terms of communications and is trying to pull a fast one but we need to be able to prove it.

If their hard copy doesn't include a complete MTA header tell them to go fuck themselves and stop wasting your time.
