Decent drive error repair/file recovery software.

My 2TB WD My Passport Ultra has shit the bed. I can see all the files, and I can access the majority of them, but Win 10 drive check will take about 10 days, Chkdsk can't access it, and I cba spending a week trying to find what has it locked, the WD software errors every time, Robocopy stops after copying 10GB, and dragging the files off via windows is a non-starter.

What's the current best software for copying files off a failing disk? Preferably something that will skip unreadable files, and not be sat retrying when I go to check in the morning.

Guess I need to buy a 2, 3 or 4TB internal drive now. Any recommendations under, say, one hundred nicker?

If capacity is more important than speed, the Seagate ST4000DM004 is round about 90 for a 4TB 5900RPM drive.

For speed, the Toshiba P300 3TB isn't bad for 60-70.

Cheers bud, I might go for a slower 4TB. It's just a dumping ground and a backup for pictures and stuff. I realise now that external USB drives aren't really reliable enough to trust for this task. Certainly not if you're going to leave them connected all the time (and occasionally knock them off your desk).

Time for a NAS maybe? Synology 2-bay device would be perfect?
