It's perfectly likely that Malignaggi is just promoting the fight as well.

Hard to see how organised boxing competes with this and other hybrid grandstand fights going forwards given the apparent size of MMA's following. Harks back to the setup of the Premier League or the march of digital music over the record industry. Lots of huffing and complaining from yesterday's men who have no idea how they got blindsided so badly and no idea what to do about it.

Bookies win either way obviously, they don't care where the bets come from or if the fight is sanctioned.

It'd help if organised boxing became organised, but I just don't see that happening. I'm the wrong person to ask as UFC really doesn't appeal, but the lack of structure in boxing surely stifles interest massively. Alphabet soup of different belts, complete black box as to how fights get organised, too many duff fights as a result, but very occasionally punctuated by moments of excitement when a local champion emerges for his moment in the sun (thinking Joshua and Frampton at the moment).

Stuck £25 on Mayweather. Was tempted to put £100 on it but thought better.

Of course he is, he's commentating on the fight for Showtime (I think).

That's why I didn't bother with £100; only win £25.

It's more potentially losing £25 is enough to make it interesting.

Didn't see the fight but it reads like he at least made a go of it? For all the talk of no-one hitting as hard at McG, it didn't sound like he did much damage.

Damaged his own points by swinging round the back of Mayweather's head.

Would have liked McG to win, but don't think many people expected him to make it to the tenth round.

Went pretty much as everyone thought it would.
Fair play to McGregor tho, at no point did he look like he didn't deserve to be there, 10 rounds with the worlds best, fair play.

First few rounds went to McG, he was quick and going at him, but at no point did Mayweather look off.
In typical Mayweather fashion he wore down McG and started opening up.

Wasnt your usual Mayweather bore fest, some decent shots landed.
Fair play to both of them

Link for the fight are up in usual places

I got up early to watch it. Thought it was pretty good.

Mayweather showed he's the greatest defensive boxer of all time.
McGregor showed he's a lot better boxer than people thought he'd be.
They both gave people their money's worth with 10 rounds.
McGregor lost graciously and Mayweather gave him credit for a good fight afterwards.

It wasn't the freakshow people were calling it beforehand.

It was still a freakshow for me. McGregor was pretty awful ,head movement, defence, stamina, punch power all really bad. Mayweather himself looked pretty poor , but McGregor was really not in it. Mayweather gave him the first three rounds to either drag it out or feel out McGregors style then that was it. McGregor was so gassed Mayweather was walking him down and walking through shots, barely using the jab which is what he does.

On that evidence Mayweather would struggle against some of the top guys now , but this fight was simply about the money. McGregor certainly has no place in a boxing ring again. The post fight reaction tells the tale I think!

That was a great fight - GGG v Alvarez - no where near a draw .

It looks like one of the judges, Byrd, might be investigated. She has a history of being utterly fucking useless in UFC judging too, so it didn't surprise me she had it so wrong.

On rewatch , I'll grant that some of the rounds were close , but for me it was still a Golovkin win by a few rounds. But aye that 118-110 scorecard is an absolute disgrace. Yet another one to add to the list of dubious boxing scorecards.

Scorecard was massively weird but the result could have been a draw. Close match. GGG probably edged it on workrate and punches, but the result itself wasn't a travesty. In any event the only real way to win is KO and this was an enjoyable spectacle

yeah , I do agree after watching again. I do think Golovkin took it , more agressive , busier, but there were rounds Alvarez had the more eye catching stuff and was defending almost perfectly.

At any rate I hope we get a rematch in a timely fashion!
